The world's largest earthquake since 2001 split the ocean bottom between Tasmania and Antarctica yesterday. At an 8.1 magnitude, it would have reduced a city to rubble, but as it was only tubeworms and penguins were threatened.

We are relieved to hear the penguins made it through unscathed (as did antarctic scientists). No word on the worms.
