Through the wonders of genetic engineering, scientists can now restore the hearing of deaf guinea pigs. This was done using a specially modified adenovirus -- no embryonic stem cells required (although other scientists insist stem cells from embryos would work better).The trick is to get tiny sound-receiving hairs in the deep inner guinea pig ear to grow back.
