Oath
Bush Inauguration
A bit of gossip on how Chief Justice Rehnquist is doing, which is not good.

It's not essential under the Constitution for the Chief Justice to administer the presidential oath January 20th. Lyndon Johnson was sworn in by a local Dallas judge after President Kennedy's assassination, and Calvin Coolidge had the oath administered by his dad, a notary public.

Here's a list of who administered the oath at each inauguration since the beginning, courtesy of the Library of Congress.

Please stay home and get better, Mr. Chief Justice.
